Octo-Diggity-Dog

Tuesday, 4/24/12 - A while ago I had bought a pack of turkey hot dogs, and they had been sitting around getting old. Since we also had a packet of buns sitting around since Easter, I decided to make a fun hot dog for her lunch.
Octo-Diggity-Dog
Hot dog. ketchup (in red lettuce leaf.) broccoli, carrots, chard, strawberries
I didn't have a lot of time, so I figured I'd make some star-shaped stuff, to be like starfish for a "Sea" theme to go with the octo-dogs. That and I couldn't find my mini ocean cutter set. I used a mini star cutter from the space set instead. And then I ended up liking the coins with the stars cut out. Plus the stars were soooo itty-bitty. It would have taken me all day to cut enough for to give her some nutriments. I tossed in some broccoli and a bit of rainbow chard left over from some braising mix that came with my CSA box.
I kind of flubbed the legs on the dogs, but they each have 8. Some freakishly skinny, or short. Or with extra cuts in them. Whee. At the last-minute I decided to use my faces cutter set to imprint a face. Turned out great. Would have been better if I had done it before cooking though!

This lunch was free from artificial dyes, and also peanut- and tree nut-free!
She ate almost everything! Including the lettuce holding the ketchup! She skipped the broccoli and chard, and some of the carrot coins.

Mama's Lunch
Spinach and red lettuce salad w/carrots and strawberries,
Raspberry vinaigrette, star fruit, Nutella rolls
My lunch has nuts in it (via the Nutella,) but is vegetarian. Yo!

 Bonus!
It was her first day of T-ball practice, which started at dinner time. So I threw together another bento in one of our EasyLunchboxes to eat on the way there and back.
SunButter/Honey sandwich, Goldfish, Biscoff spread, leftover veggies, apples
Since the dolphin Lunch Punch makes 2 identical dolphins, I just used it on one slice of bread to make a half-sandwich.
She was super excited to get "cookie spread" for her apples. She ate pretty much everything.

Other than the candy eye, this lunch is artificial dye-free (these Goldfish Crackers use natural food-based dyes.) Also peanut- and tree nut-free.
