A Lunchbox Far, Far Away... #ForceFriday

Toys are already being released for the highly anticipated upcoming release of the new movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens on December 15, 2015. To launch this toy release today, fans and stores are celebrating #ForceFriday on social media and with "unboxing" videos on Youtube! It just so happens that this also coincided with the arrival yesterday of my new Thermos jar and drink Funtainers with Star Wars designs that I bought on impulse! Wahoo! So my Second-Grader got a lunch that was "out of this world!"

Water, goat cheese quesadilla, DF ranch, organic carrots and strawberries
While my girls aren't big Star Wars fans (yet!) I just HAD to have the R2-D2 insulated drink bottle and C-3PO insulated food jar. They aren't old enough for the movies, but Z recognizes all the main characters now, thanks to the Vader and Son and Jedi Academy book series from Jeffrey Brown. Good enough for me!
I always send water in our Funtainer drink bottles. I can just refill them every day and only wash on the weekends. Z likes her water cold, so I fill with ice water and keep it in the fridge the night before. The ice is melted, but the water stays nice and cool all day!

In the C-3PO insulated jar, I heated up a leftover goat cheese quesadilla with sliced olives (her favorite) on a gluten-free corn tortilla. I cut it into thirds to help it fit better.

In a Stormtrooper sandwich box (from Target's Dollar Spot a while ago,) I packed her carrots with a Darth Vader cupcake ring, and some dairy-free ranch dressing in a brick dip container. Her strawberries have a green lightsaber cupcake pick mostly because the red and blue ones blended in too much.

The Angels and the Phone Box - Doctor Who "Lunch for Twelve" Blog Hop!

In honor of the premiere of the Season 8 of Doctor Who and to welcome the Twelfth Doctor, Edible Geekery is celebrating with a lunchy Whovian hop! You can vworp vworp off to the next lunch through the link at the bottom of this post!

Eleven
GF PBJ, Jelly Babies (dye-free!) chocolate coconut yogurt w/sprinkles, organic carrots and grapes
I ended up doing a hash job of it, but I made a sandwich for my oldest with a TARDIS cookie press. (Mine is from England, but a similar one is available in a set at Think Geek!)

My friend brought back some Jelly Babies from Canada (natural colors and flavors!) so they had to go in for sure!

I also included an Eleventh Doctor cupcake pick and Dalek cupcake wrapper from England. I don't usually like to include disposable stuff when I don't have to, but I couldn't resist these!

The Angels Have the Phone Box
GF PBJ, dark chocolates; organic carrots, strawberries, and raspberries
I had better luck using my Angel cookie press and Doctor Who chocolate mold (imported from England) for another of Z's recent lunches. Nothing to do with Twelve, but the Weeping Angels are characters Z recognizes from the show. I decided to use some wing picks to make the strawberry more angel-y too. Tee hee.

Two of Hearts
GF PBJ; organic carrots, tomatoes, grapes, blueberries, blood orange
My 2-year-old also enjoys her "Dokkah Hoo," but isn't as familiar with all the characters (except Ten... both my girls loooove Ten!) So for her, I just used a mini heart cutter to represent the Doctor's two hearts!

Keep clicking the Lunch for Twelve button to hop through all the Who-y goodness! Next up is Candy Girl at Bent On Better Lunches!

May the Fourth Be With You - Join the Dark Side... We Have Lunches!

A long time ago, in a lunchroom far far away....

Lunch Wars, Episode III
Revenge of the Lunch
To celebrate Star Wars Day, Bento Bloggers and Friends is doing a fun lunchy blog hop! Click the button to see what Beneficial Bento has created. The Force is strong with that one!

(If you want, you can check out my previous Star Wars lunches; Episode I and Episode II)

Join the Dork Side
GF PBJ, organic blueberries, GF pretzels w/DF white chocolate and dye-free sugar sprinkles,
edamame, vegetarian dye-free gelatin

Later, Vader - I used my Vader cookie cutter press to make Z's sandwich, and followed Wendolonia's tips on making the imprint show up really well. You have to be extra careful with gluten-free bread though. It's crumblier.

Light Sabers - I made mini edible light sabers using gluten-free pretzel sticks dipped in melted dairy-free white chocolate chips (plus a little coconut oil to thin it out,) then rolled in dye-free natural red and blue sugar sprinkles.

Pew Pew! - I made Z a jello shape in my Millenium Falcon ice mold. When I found them on sale at Think Geek, I bought all the Star Wars molds they had! Merry Christmas to ME! Yes, I know the Millenium Falcon is for the "good guys." But I couldn't resist!

The dye-free vegetarian gelatin I bought is no longer available, but I've found dye-free gelatin using animal products, or vegetarian gelatin that uses artificial colors and flavors. In instances like this, I always choose natural over ethical, and buy the dye-free animal gelatin when I'm too lazy to make my own with juice and agar agar.

To go along with the red theme for the Dark Side, Z got a star pick in her edamame and a star cup to hold her blueberries.

Light Side
GF PBJ, GF pretzels w/DF white chocolate and dye-free sugar sprinkles, dye-free vegetarian gelatin,
organic blueberries, edamame, organic tomatoes
These ARE the Droids You're Looking For... - Little E got her jello in an R2-D2 ice mold. Robots are cool.

Instead of making a shaped sandwich too, I just gave E the scraps, tucked under some edible light sabers.

Little Sis got a thicker star pick, with the plaid design turned away. I love these short and sturdy picks for my little one, since there's less risk of breakery.
